They don't seem to advertise toilet rolls on TV anymore do they. Come to think of it, why did it ever need advertising, we all needed it. I can't even recall when I last saw the Andrex puppy for instance.
Toilet roll is not alone. So many of the household basics that always got heavily advertised on TV a few years ago do not seem to be anymore, such as soap and toothpaste. Headache pills used to get lots of advertising on TV as well. Teabags is another. Even various brands of petrol, such as Esso or Shell. I'm sure others here can add a few more items. I wonder why this has happened.
Tampon/Tampax ads are cringe, I am women know what to do and most had a chat when they kids with their peers.
I hate that ads now either use old songs with new lyrics for the product, not forgetting how loud they are compared to programme you are watching.
Added diversity in ads are getting way out of hand. |

I think I read about the bottle tops a few months ago.
Seems the plastic bottles without tops float on the sea while if the top is on they sink. |

Best place to buy toilet rolls is in bulk at Costco. I need to, I'm a 5 times a day person. God knows how or why but it seems that's at the upper end of within normal range from anything down to a couple of times a week.
Shrinkflation is a modern dishonest menace from manufacturers. They really do think people are stupid and don't notice. I always check weights and sizing on packets like a hawk. They trick you with packets looking the same size with less content. Some people just go with the visual. One modern trick with sweets is these "pouches" they sell them in nowadays where you can't see the content. These pouches are half filled with air that gives the illusion of more.
Going back to toilet rolls though, and there is an ever bigger mystery about them.......
Why can't you buy toilet rolls in pink, peach, blue, or green anymore? I think you could even get purple once. But no more. Only white anywhere and everywhere, yet I remember my mum picking coloured rolls to match the bathroom decor and the downstairs toilet, in pinks and blues at least until the 1990's.
We've never had more consumer choice but not when it comes to our backsides, unless you want it quilted!
They stopped selling the coloured ones because the dyes had become irritating to women.
Now they torment us with perfume and lotion instead. |
