Have just been watching some clips of Gordon Brown in interview. I wondered if JK had any advice he would give Brown, as our PM is utterly abysmal in front of camera. He cannot relax his face, that's bad for starters. He tries to smile, but it's mostly fixed, and then his face droops and the jaw drops. The teeth clench, and the eyes skip aggressively from side to side, as if he he shows nothing but contempt for the interviewer, and subsequently for those watching, he isolates the viewer. He is terribly self concious, and not as confident or as appealing as Cameron in my opinion.
I know it is a skill being good in front of camera, and Jonathan was always good, of course. I suppose the key word is to relax. Something Brown just cannot do.
Still waiting for a backbench revolt and the return of Blair. A PM needs to be charismatic, and a competent performer. Surely.
Was never a big fan of Thatcher, but you have to admit she was bloody great in the public glare. |
