When you look at it now, it's probably better that Trump is coming back for his second term, non consecutively, because it has given him and his close associates time to regroup and think about that first four years and any mistakes made and not make them again. Had he been continuously in power such an opportunity would not have arisen for a total reset and evaluation of the first four years, plus he would have had to keep Pence, and this gave him an easy chance for a new VP as well. |

Trump can say some bloody stupid things at times and I'd never agree with that "losers" comment if he said it in the context suggested. Is there first hand proof he ever said it? I know he made some comment about John McCain being captive. The thing is that even most of those who voted Trump enthusiastically last week know full well he sometimes makes a crass comment.
On the Vietnam draft issue and the medical shenanigans, wasn't even the medical quite a humiliating situation in itself, stripping everyone and lining them all up naked for inspection, I'm sure I read something like that. Who knew the easiest way to avoid enlistment was to raise yourself upwards for the authorities to see first hand! You'd certainly have to be brave to try that one like Iggy Pop. So Iggy is a shower and not a grower then. I think many would have been so anxious in that situation they couldn't have done what Iggy Pop did even if they wanted to at the right moment.
Jim Bowen told a story on TV a few years ago about his enlistment and his group of national service call ups all being naked for medical and finding out there was a woman among the medics checking them out. On discovering this, many of the young men had never been seen naked by another non family female before, and one of them became fully aroused because of this and promptly had the female medic approach him and smack a large ruler down across his erect penis, which presumably went straight back down after that. Now that's what I call a massive humiliation.....and come to think of it, a sexual assault. But Jim laughed about it.
In those days I don't suppose many men would have dared fib about their sexuality to avoid service no matter how much they wished to swerve it. Nowadays of course that trick probably wouldn't work at all, and might even be an advantage. |

Unless we were directly defending our own homeland here in the UK of course. A country like the USA should have been easily able to raise a volunteer army you'd have thought for something like Vietnam. Thank goodness we had a sane PM here in Harold Wison who would have nothing to do with it or waste our young lives.
I agree Rich, the list of celebrities who avoided the draft or got Draft Deferments is long. However, morons with TDS will pick on Trump.
Some examples I remember reading about over the years.
I got personal friends who got their draft cards and burnt them at protest rallies in Long Island. Believe me there are thousands who did that.
If they went for there medical, who would not wear their glasses, act very camp/gay, pretend they had criminal records, borrowed mouth braces from relatives or get just stoned. Iggy Pop jacked his cock until it got nice and hard and then told the officers he likes men. Believe he is hung when he is not hard. I have seen it on concert bootlegs.
Gregg Allman put a bullet in his foot to fail the medical. Mad, I know. I bet his drug and piss test would show nothing but chemicals.
Carl Wilson did a runner was arrested and then deferred. Levon Helm from The Band found a loophole.
I think Toy Caldwell (Marshall Tucker Band) was the only member to go to Nam and get a Purple Heart. I think Doug Gray and George McCorkle were in the reserves.
Gary Lewis could have the avoided the draft if Jerry paid or pulled a few strings. He did 2 years I think and then the Playboys were old news. |
