The similarities to the rise of Hitler are most bizarre.
Shortly after he was sworn in as Chancellor in 1933 he signed an order to release about 3000 supporters who ere jailed over his Beer Hall Putsch in 1923.
He also surrounded himself with industrialists, sme who were a bit reluctant.
Those he released went on to form the Brown Shirts. Will the Jan 6th rioters become a sort of praetorian guard? |

You are correct.
The current bunch sort of standout possibly because the sheer vacuousness and plainness of all the others.
They really don't have the charisma or eccentricity of past politicians.
Love the Starmer and wall paper bit. He really is Britain's Dullest Man.

I agree about Starmer, but often wonder how politicians of the pre- film, TV and now Internet and smartphone age (e.g. Abraham Lincoln or Benjamin Disraeli) would fare if transplanted to the modern age. Would they be dismissed, by comparison with the actors, entertainers and online "influencers" of today, as not charismatic/captivating/entertaining enough? I wonder if we have become particularly intolerant of "boring" politicians in recent years, perhaps because of the Internet and short attention spans. Not long before the dawn of the Internet, John Major was considered a bit bland, but did seem to be taken seriously. |
