Chancellor Reeves still peddling the fiction on TV this morning that tax rises in last October’s Budget were forced on her by the £22bn Tory ‘black hole’ in nation’s accounts. Let’s deal with that once and for all before Wednesday’s Spring Statement.
Let’s accept, just this once, the ‘black hole’ even if, contrary to her claims on Sky News today, the OBR has never acknowledged its existence.
She taxed and borrowed by far more than necessary to fill in the alleged black hole — because she wanted to increase public spending, which she did by £70bn.
She financed this by £40bn more in taxes and £30bn more in borrowing.
She did not have to do anything like that to fill in her black hole.
But by doing what she did she lost the confidence of consumers, business and investors.
This has slowed the economy to a crawl and created a new black hole of her own making. Which she will attempt to fill in with spending cuts on Wednesday and, no doubt, more tax rises come next April’s Budget.

Time and again we hear people who become politicians say the reason they came into public life was to make things better for people, but where is the evidence of this in the majority of cases? What really motivates these people, because most of them, like Reeves and Starmer, are not making life any better for anyone who actually matters, the law abiding majority of decent British people by the tens of millions, they are deliberately setting out to make things far worse years into the future and in many cases these people seem to relish doing so.

Oh, and by the way. At precisely the same time Labour ministers are hitting working people, pensioners and the disabled they're also preparing to hand a massive tax cut to the US tech giants in an attempt to appease Donald Trump.

UK Households set to be poorer by 2030 - with the poorest hardest hit, losing twice as much as the well off. Remind me again, THIS IS A LABOUR GOVERNMENT, YES? A LABOUR ONE doing this! It's more vile than the worst of the Tories, is this really the golden new dawn that those gullible fools fell for last summer and expected?

Meanwhile Reeves and Co are still on the take having learned no lessons, getting freebie pop concert tickets yet again and trying to pathetically defend it all while screwing everyone else who have to pay for theirs with the diminishing left over cash they may have or not. These people are more unfit for public life than Boris Johnson ever was. Their ultimate defenestration must be without any mercy at all.
It's impossible now to take from the rich and re distribute to the poor. There is no point in a "Labour" party. We are back to Victorian times when the only hope was individuals giving to charity. |
