Rich Hedda, I do find many contradictions about Trump. Yes he insults people left right and centre, but does he always mean it? He's been viciously insulted by many too, including Starmer and Lammy yet had them to tea recently and seemed to forget it. Even Boris Johnson insulted Trump long ago but he forgot all about it.

When he met with Biden a couple of days after winning the election he spoke of politics "being a rough business" but was on polite first name terms even with Biden in his company. How much of it is a performance?

What I would like to see though is Trump sometime finding the energy to insult Putin and call him out for what he really is, which is a women and child killer, men as well, and someone who kills his own former friends too. He may well want to keep Putin sweet in order to get his deal on Ukraine but there's something amiss when you are insulting all your allies and steering clear of doing so with someone who is clearly a foe.

I also have the impression that the media can't keep up with Trump or have become inured to his lies and inconsistencies. Michael Gove, who's apparently now editor of The Spectator, was recently interview on LBC by Andrew Marr and said that when Trump is interviewed he goes into stream-of-consciousness mode, though will usually have a couple of messages to get across. He said Trump had a kind of "feral" intelligence.

When talking the press yesterday, Trump called the editor of The Atlantic a "total sleazebag" and also spoke about people "breaking into" Signal. Then Waltz was also claiming the journalist somehow infiltrated the group rather than being invited in. And Hegseth also spoke of a "deceitful and discredited so-called journalist" who peddles hoaxes and garbage and said no war plans were texted. The rule seems to be: smear and lie.

A bit rich coming from Marr.
hedda Gove is spot on with his analysis.

hedda I love how Trump cannot make a statement without his vile bitchiness coming across.

He says The Atlantic is a "failing" publication.

No it's not..it's coasting along like it always has.

I'll never forget when he he was asked about former Oz PM and current Oz Ambassador to the US Kevin Rudd's criticism of him.

Trump replied " I've never heard of him. I heard he isn't very bright"

Uhh? Is one part of the sentence true and the other part a lie?.
(Rudd is 100 times smarter & more educated than Trump)

Yet he gets away with such absurdities and I think because they happen every time he opens his mouth the media can't keep up or have become immune to it.
