I was thinking the other day how much simpler life was before the internet. On the other hand, it does make some things easier. But what I particularly dislike about the onward march of digital technology is the increasing assumption that everyone in online 24/7, has a smartphone and a fully functioning home office. That seems undemocratic as it's unfair not only on people who choose not to use that technology but also on people who can't afford it, which is probably an increasing number of people given the rising cost of living and the expense of digital tech.

I hadn't thought of an adblock for Facebook. I only visit FB occasionally as I get a tad tired of "friends" posting inane pics of their lunch or dinner. Who is interested in that?

What concerns me is that you can do a Google search for something & then ads pop up on your FB page for similar.

I have no problem with websites having adverts..they need the money. But when ads become intrusive it's a put off. The Daily Mail for instance is nightmarish.

Adblocks work well for a time..my YouTube one is excellent but every now and then they catch on and change how it all works.

Then you have to wait for the adblock creators to also catch up..which they do.

Green Man I agree Hedda. I get a lot of famous artists, holding up a Photoshop band shirts. They seem to be lifted from Wish.com. The comments are either from gullible people who cannot tell it's fake or scammers themselves. I remember seeing a massive Rolling Stones vinyl box set on on a Facebook ad. However the photos and comments were all from India.

I only use Temu to buy record needles. Everything else looks pure tat and no doubt some of the electricals are lethal.
hedda I'm getting sick to death of the woeful Facebook website which is riddled with fraudsters and scammers and the ghastly Zuckerberg creature does sod all about it.

The current annoying one for me is endless "boutique" outlets claiming to sell marvelous cashmere clothing at ridiculous low prices.

I foolishly clicked on one ages ago only to have endless new "closing down boutiques" appear in my timeline.

They all have the same clever design with appealing photos yet all have slight variations with a similar name.

Even clicking on the I'm not interested button seems to make some algorithm kick in so even more similar scammers appear.

Miriam Margolyes has been screaming about her identity being stolen and appearing in fake Facebook pages & has threatened Zuckerberg with legal action.

Ridiculously I had a friend request the other day from a "Keanu Reeves" followed by a slew of so called slebs wanting to be pals. It's as though these scamsters can see you looking at a post & then they flood you with garbage.

I dread to think what travesties will come as A1 develops rapidly.

Following the US actors and extras union SAG strike in 2025 the union successfully won agreements with the big production houses whereby their images are protected in future films with payments having to be paid.

The US film production houses fought this like crazy but caved in, in the end.

And now one large production company that fought SAG has been hit by A1 unauthorized cartoons of it's copyright material.

The whole mess being created by A1 which the studios hoped to use has backfired on them.

It's an unholy mess and the internet has become a veritable nightmare in many respects.
