This isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm sick of our own leaders in this country who are constantly obsessed with the following days paper headlines.
A ceasefire may suit Russia rather nicely. They can then have a breather and build up to their next massive offensive against Ukraine in a few months or a year or two. We should afford Putin 0% trust. Legally he could be arrested in Alaska and should be under the ICC warrant and flown to The Hague. It won't happen but would be a beautiful thing to see.
Trump will not solve this in Ukraine's favour I'm afraid. He's most likely to put Zelensky into a corner to look the villain of future peace rather than Putin which would be grotesque. |

It will be interesting to see, later today, whether my thoughts above come true. After all, how can Zelensky refuse to end the killing when a perfectly reasonable discussion over where the border should be can take place over future months (and years)? Leaving much of Ukraine in Russian hands? Absurd but media and global punters will see sense and acclaim Trump as a peacemaker. |

As regulars know I attribute much of Trump's success (both times) to Russian and Israeli assistance online. Putin will agree a total ceasefire in return for detailed discussions between Russia and Ukraine over future months on where the border should lie. Zelensky will have to agree. |
