Clifford " most people are capable of driving at that speed carefully " How do you know this? Incidentally, for someone who finds stats misleading, i'm staggered that you don't understand that " most people " is over 50 percent! In a nutshell, i agree with ITK (again).
ReadyTeddy Given the right conditions, even a blind person can easily top the ton, however on a road where the the expected maximum speed of traffic is 70, then travelling faster means that you will be relying on other people's reflexes as well as your own to avoid any accidents. Relying on other people is never a good idea - some have never even passed their test.

Royalty should be following the law to the letter - showing us how it is done .

I understand your point. I don't necessarily agree, most people are quite capable of driving at that speed safely. Unfortunately, many other people are not capable of driving safely at 60mph. To protect all road users from those dangerous drivers speed limits are set accordingly. From that viewpoint, the Police are able to drive safely at high speeds through such traffic with suitable training. My point that 100mph is not reckless per se stands.

Like the police man who killed a 16 year old girl in Newcastle on Monday evening ?

Slyster As far as I am aware I didn't use any statistics, I find them misleading for the most part. I use the term capable, not can. The difference is small but very important. To expand - one leading psychotherapist clamed all men are capable of murder. My point is that most people are capable given the correct training and correct state of mind. That capability surely fuelled into action by the important cargo they were carrying.
Clifford I understand you're point but i don't understand where you get your stats from. Where is the research to say that "most people can drive safely at 100mph" if it is illegal?
