At Risley in the mid 90s we were locked up for longer periods on weekends. Nobody had work to go to, so we had less time to associate and they employed fewer staff. I didn't mind too much as I had my radio and books, but the less imaginative inmates got a bit frustrated.

Keeping inmates locked up for longer at weekends (on Fridays) will simply mean more problems for the future (I've predicted a major prisons riot sometime this year).
At very least, the bitterness and resentment in this country, which locks up more people than the rest of Europe put together, will provide further incentives to more crime.
