veritas About 25 years ago when I lived in London permanently I always went to Brighton every weekend and stayed with a magistrate friend.

The tales he'd tell me of what he thought of as police corrupting evidence were toe-curling. He said there were so many cases he believed the police were simply lieing or had fabricated evidence but he had to find the person guilty under law.

He would then give the lightest possible sentence..becoming a hated magistrate by the police but naturally loved by defence attorneys.

He eventually became a Circuit Judge and I only caught up with him in Thailand 3 years ago- now portly and very "establishment", looking every bit the stern M'Lud.
"not much has changed"
he replied when I asked about the way the law currently works.

I loved the idea that he would now be sitting on the benches with still the same mindset with prosecutors not having a clue of what a "revolutionary" mind he still had.
BR If only it were that simple. Barry George was not in Broadmoor was he ?

I am not sure what the percentage is - but I remember reading somewhere that a very high proportion of those locked up do have serious mental health issues.

Our society has not been very tolerant of those with mental health issues - preferring "looney bins" to house them for many years. Only now with Care in the Community do we see progress taking place allowing people with Mental Health issues to function properly.

When you consider people like the amazing intelligent STEPHEN FRY have "bi-polor" which WINSTON CHURCHILL also suffered from - then you can see that some of the most talented people suffer from such illnesses.

The legal system seems against the vulnerable. If Barry George did not have a sister to fight for him outside - then he would have rotted in jail for his whole life for something he had nothing at all to do with - and because our Police have no morals at all. they must have known it was not him.....makes you wonder what sort of people work in the Police......

We need to start to show more concern and care for the vulnerable and weak ( and old and young ) in our society. At the moment the UK is a very selfish place to be - fanned by "selfish" media companies who seem to want to judge every element of everyone's lives whilst living hypocritical lifestyles.

Just look at Gordon Brown and New Labour. On one hand they claim to be against Global Warming and want to tax us - and then they want to increase the size of power stations and more airport runways. They are hyprocrites of the worst type.

That would be everyone in Broadmoor then?
BR In the light of Barry George's case it is time the COURTS analyse EVERY case that has 1. A Mentally Disturbed person or 2. A person with a very low IQ.

It is quite clear the POLICE have fitted up VULNERABLE PERSONS in order to increase their clear up rates.

How many thousands of innocent but "simple" people are in UK jails......the thought is quite frightening.

Our whole justice system is corrupt - and I applaud JK for helping 12 ( Twelve !!! ) people overturn their wrong convictions as mentioned below.

A "magistrate" friend told me that the POLICE are the biggest liars they face in court hearings !!! The POLICE far from having any respect these days are not even believed in court. How sad that things have come to this.

The first step is to clean up the system. Take the corrupt Police to court and clear them out of the system. Review the cases of all those jailed - and try and solve the crime problem which exists with career criminals seemingly untouchable by the current Policing methods.
