Hall and Oates are more underated than people would think and more innovating than most would say too.The major hits were mostly very early use of a drum machine. I could not believe my ears when I first heard them on the radio.I was listening to Kraftwerk and Cabaret Voltaire etc and they were using the same instrumentation to make MOR pop.Genius stuff. |

Underestimated, surely.
Crap album act, great singles band. John Oates could now make a decent living as a Prince lookalike, as opposed to the archetypal dodgy paedo look he sported for years. Speaking of paedos, I was unaware until today that one half of an act named after a sex toy spent a few years inside for underage fiddlings. which is the reason for that act's lengthy hiatus. |

I love Hall and Oates - I also found them very nice guys when I interviewed them for Entertainment USA. |

OK, I doubt everyone will agree with "musics most understated act"... but certainly they are greatly overlooked.
Have "Maneater", "Out Of Touch", "Rich Girl" or "Private Eyes" ever made a "best ever" song list?
I think these songs are better than many of the songs that do. I don't get it. H&O hits are still played on the radio and their recordings sold in the millions. |
