The government's plans to force the unemployable into work. Rather ill timed, given that the economy is in meltdown, and benefit claim call centres already cannot cope with the unprecedented demand.
Is forcing into work lone parents with one year old children, or mentally ill people who have been deemed fit for work after a twenty minute interview with a government employed doctor really sensible?
I cannot go into detail, but I have some first hand knowledge of this, speaking to people forced to claim Jobseekers Allowance who are unable to hold anything close to a sensible conversation and would not be able to hold down any type of job.
There is even talk of community work, making claimants dig gardens so that they can feed their children. Can anyone remember when the Labour Party used to be socialist? Lets bring back workhouses and have done with it. Soup kitchens, anyone?
They may as well build archways in front of Jobcentres with the slogan "Arbeit macht frei!" Sorry, zooloo, couldn't resist that one. |
