Angel So, they've given the job to The Elephant Man then.
Al The Doctor being made female is a long running joke with Dr Who. It was first suggested when Colin Baker left, and since then it's been rehashed every time there is a new actor. It makes sure the show is talked about.

Hopefully it'll stay as a joke.
BR I hope not. I think to change the Doctor's sex would be a step too far in re-invention. It would not be the same series. We already have the Sarah Jane Adventures for that - and we have Torchwood for the inbetweenies. It would be taking the show in the wrong direction.

Well said. Until Tennant was cast, DW was pretty much a show loved by males and loathed by females, so Tennant's casting managed to put an end to that, not to mention all the soap opera elements and romantic gunk which helped make it all palatable for female viewers. It's always had a high gay following too and until Tennant came along DW fans were stereotyped as being gay men... I should know and it really pissed me and many mates of mine off.

Just my opinion but Tennant was terrible casting because I don't think he can act. Granted, Jon Pertwee wasn't much of an actor either but at least Pertwee had some unusual quality about him that made him engaging and believable, two qualities Tennant seriously lacks. The handful of episodes I saw of him made me cringe and wince since everything I've seen Tennant in for me reveals a very limited acting talent... in almost every photo he uses that Gary Glitter facial expression with one eyebrow arched above the other trying to look serious and dramatic but ultimately looking stupid. Of course there are a great many who will disagree with me on Tennant. The part needs to be played by an older and much more experienced actor, not some idiot who has "sex appeal" to draw in female viewers.

Rumour has it that its going to a "bird". Flippin eck!
