Anthony A combination of remarkable aeronautical skills, and amazingly improbable luck.

I must say though, speaking as one with a terrible phobia of flying, I wouldn't regard being a passenger in a plane which drops into a river a few minutes after take off as a good news story. I'd most probably have died of fright.
