JC I blame todays woes on Blair and Brown. They have been in long enough to take responsibility for all that has happened. Mrs Thatcher went out of office many years ago. I still don't understand why some people hate her, or why they think that the majority share their hate. Even most her opponents have respect for her. She gave the British people more freedom within their lives and their work. That the people chose to use that freedom to exercise their greedy side cannot be blamed on her. That things have gone badly wrong under Blair and Brown cannot be blamed on her either.
veritas I blame all today's woes on Thatcherism & Reaganism and who was Tony Blair's hero ??...Margaret Thatcher !
(that should have sent alarm bells ringing)

Carol Thatcher is an exellent journalist and unlike her awful brother Mark, has never used her mother's connections.
BR So how would Adrian Chiles and Jo Brand describe this person's hair ?

As far as I can see it looks exactly like a Golliwog ( children's toy )

Where is the offence is saying that ?

I still dont find anything at all offensive about the Black and White Minstrels or Golliwogs. Neither of them are racist.

It is like saying that the DAME in a panto is demeaning to transexuals or homosexuals.....because they camp it up in drag.....

Yet the BBC broadcasts Pantos all the time at Christmas - including on Blue Peter.

This is a VENDETTA by the BBC against the TORY PARTY - hence it is political.

I still think BROWN is behind the BBC. They represent his views - he briefs them before Parliament and they tend to "BOUNCE" with him - when he organises one of his famous "COME BACKS" which get more laughable every time.

I have NO OPINION on CAMERON - except that we need to give him a chance. I have no problem with people going to Eton or Cambridge or being well off if they are human and care about the rest of us. I am not jealous like those in the Loony Left of success.

Therefore the election of a new Government cant come quickly enough - and I hope they sort out the BBC and make it a private company.
elk i don't think you can compare a 70's comedy sketch with green room chit chat especially as there is a 30 year difference
we don't know what context the remark was made, what we do know is that if you are j. ross you can behave appalling when broadcasting to millions but if you are carol thatcher you can pass a possible racist remark in private and be sacked
what it does is show the bbc's twisted views and odd, inconsistent stance on moral issues
i'd sack the lot and start again if jk won't take up the gauntlet of director general how the soup dragon from the clangers, can't be worse than mark whatsisname
Al Which brings us back to Carol Thatcher saying that the tennis player looked like a "very huggable golliwog". Obviously not said with malice.

'One Show' insiders claim that she was referring to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. So far there seems to have been no response from him, and the reactions are from people taking offence on his behalf whether he does or not. If it turns out that he is not offended, then for others, who are not black, to take offence in his place smacks of racism in itself.

Rather like the Prince Harry incident. Harry's Asian friend was not offended, just others who thought that he should be. Then it was revealed that the largest online Pakistani community calls itself paki.com, and several white turned whiter, apasrt from those which turned red.

So .. let's wait until we hear whether the person Carol Thatcher was refering to is offended of not. If they are not then, as this was said off-air in a private conversation, we have no right to be. It's nothing whatsoever to do with us. However, how the BBC behaves has much to do with us because it is publicly funded. If this comment had been broadcast, that would have been different.
