veritas always loved Kate Winslet..great actress and so refreshing after all those skinny dames.(although now she's thin !)

Can't agree with Mamma Mia-first time I didn't like a film with Abba music but Meryl Streep is a godess.

Not sure I can handle Slumdog..poverty is such a turn-off and I've seen too much in my time:unsure:
JK2006 No real surprises - thank heavens the best film nominated won for Best Actress - Kate in The Reader - though Meryl deserved it and I still think Mamma Mia was the best movie of the year (VPTM was THE film of the year).

Can't comment on The Wrestler (haven't seen it); ditto Ben Button...

Slumdog ran away with it - to recap, excellent but 30 mins too long, a bit one dimensional, the lead boy can't act though the littlest kid was great and his brother as a teen was good too; the girl in it is gorgeous; best last ten minutes I've ever seen and stay for the credits; best cinematography by miles, great music.

But Daldry should have won Director and Langella Best Actor though David Kross who wasn't nominated was the best actor I thought.
