emmapeelfanclub Lenny Henry in the 70's and very early 80's was also a rather un-PC act. It was when he was working on the lame Tiswas follow up, OTT in 1982 that Dawn French began giving him hell about it.

It was around that era - early years of Thatcherism in fact - that PC really kicked in big time.
Emma Bee I think the biggest example of idiocy concerning the B/W minstrals was when Lenny Henry, who used to perform with them, said how he it never occurred to him that they were racist until someone told him they were.
emmapeelfanclub And may I also point out that the BBC are even more guilty of PC censorship?

There is one episode of "Are You Being Served?" where they host a German week. That had two or three scenes removed for the DVD release. These scenes did have mild references to do with the war and the Nazis, but good old Auntie won't let us see it any more as it was made and broadcast. One or two episodes of "Steptoe and Son" also had cuts made to them on DVD because of similar subject matter.Yet the uncut versions were obviously permissible when released on VHS tape...

Funny then they allow the infamous Fawlty Towers episode to be released and repeated uncut... How many times have the BBC shown the clip of Cleese goose stepping? Loads. No. That's not racist or un-PC in their eyes but a lot of other milder stuff is.

The BBC will never repeat "The Black and White Minstrel Show". I believe the films and tapes that survive at the BBC have stickers plastered on them stating they cannot be repeated or used due to racist content. It was one of their most popular shows until the PC brigade came along. They say it is inexcusably racist for white people to black up. So why then is it acceptable for David Walliams to black up for "Little Britain" and use images of that on books and DVD's where everybody can see he is blacked up?
