It was news to me that the last week of Joe Orton's diaries, not published until 24 years after his death, were removed by the police. He had found a new lover.

I don't think he lived long enough to reach his full potential. I think he is remembered best for the biopic of his life, Prick Up Your Ears, directed by Stephen Frears and written by the brilliant Alan Bennett, a far better writer than Orton.
