I don't think there is much chance of any peace over there.
It isn't just about Israel. Most of what was Palestine lies in Jordan anyway and they, along with Egypt and Syria aren't about to repatriate the millions of Jews and Arabs they threw out in the last century. People somehow seem to forget that almost 3 times as many jews than Palestinian Arabs were displaced and where else were they going to go ?
You can't just sort Israel out without also sorting out the neighbours, who have played a disgraceful part in the suffering of both Jews and Palestinians.
Israel cannot demilitarize JK. We all know what would happen if they did.
veritas
how could Israel demiliterize 300 nuclear weapons ?
They really are ramping up the rhetoric saying they are surrounded by people threatening to wipe them out. It couldn't and wouldn't be ever done. Iran's nutty president never said he wanted Israel wiped out-just the Zionist Party. Just like I want Nu Labour to disappear.
No-one has the capacity certainly not the Palestinians.
Obama's speech is probably the most dangerous thing he has done to date..we saw the results of Clinton's efforts to bring peace-the assassination Yitzhak Rabin.

wasn't he indicted on corruption charges? or have I got the wrong man?

Whilst recognising Palestine as a state is superb, saying it must demilitarise is ridiculous.
Would Israel demilitarise under similar circumstances?
Both should give up all violence and destroy all weapons. But it will understandably never happen.
