JK2006 My Godfather wasn't actually my godfather - he was my brother's godfather and his mother was my godmother, but easier to blur the detail!

He was Osborne Elliot and died last year; he was a huge editor (of Newsweek) and then became Deputy Mayor of New York under Abe Beame (we had dinner at Gracie Mansion several times) and Dean of Columbia University.
veritas who is your godfather ?..is he in the media?

Cronkite was wonderful and he came form that era when the US media was absolutely the best on the planet.

Now it's been subverted by big business and special interests.
JK2006 Very sad - he was a brilliant news reader and reporter.
I was lucky enough to sit next to him at my Godfather's 70th birthday celebrations about 20 years ago. Delightful man; tiny; spent his time persuading ladies of a similar age to dance with him and burying his nose in their bosoms!

We had long and fascinating conversations over the delicious meal.

And my godfather's brother Jock gave a superb speech; I was astonished. But later discovered he was an acclaimed public speaker.
giles2008 The man regarded as "The most trusted man in America" . Aged 92,after a long illness.
