That's true. I understand that offenders, or convicted people, who are on a register are visited regularly but not monitored 24 hours a day, so what are they doing the rest of those days or hours while not monitored? As their details would be in the police computer database anyway, what difference do the registers make other than create more paperwork for police officers?

fine except nobody thinks these things through, nobody ever asks people who know what the real problems are - like probation officers, prison staff or intelligent ex inmates, everyone in government only thinks about what the meejah will say (and they only care about a good story)... so our money gets spent constructing a huge, expensive, time consuming but headline catching process that applies to a tiny percentage of people, most of whom are bright enough to offend again anyway if they intend to. |
