david why 3 generations, not 2 or 4, or 23? what is your logic?

and why are the bnp obsessed by ethinicty? oh yes, cos they're fascists.

they don't like homosexuals like me either for that matter.
robbiex I think that we should go back say 3 generations before accepting someone as british. I don't think that been born somewhere is proof that you ethnically belong to that country, otherwise Cliff Richard would be indian, as well as spike milligan and joanna lumley. If a dog is born in a stable, it doesn't mean that it is a horse.

If you are black then you are ethnically Afro-Caribbean and be proud of it. I don't think we should get bogged down with theories about 1 million years ago we all had relatives in Africa, get a sense of perspective. If you see a labrador dog, you don't say actually its not really a labrador because it had 1 ancestor 1000 years ago that was an alsation.
JC How far back do we go to decide who is ethnically British. It is believed that, like other Celts, the original Brits were all red haired .. so is anyone without red hair not truly British? I recall a scientist saying how pheasants were not native to this country because they were brought over by the Romans. That made me wonder how many centuries a species has to live somewhere before it can be classed as a native.

I believe there was also a time when no people lived on this island. If so, then none of us are truly ethnically British.

On the everyone originating in Africa theory; I have my doubts purely on the grounds of the other many changes of opinion in the scientific world over the decades as more discoveries are made. Science is more a voyage of discovery. There is no such thing as an "exact science". Mostly it is calculated guesswork based on our limited knowledge so far.
veritas Although I see no problem with this guy saying what he did on the BBC it's pretty clear it's meant to be a criticism of Cole and the BNP member is using the fact in some racially based manner.

He could clear this up by having a DNA test but he may not like the results.

The former right-wing politician Pauline Hanson who ranted in Australia for a few years about ethnic backgrounds and Muslims (as well as knocking Aboriginals which took some gall) had such a DNA test and after rambling on about her Scottish/Irish heritage (as though it was superior) was shocked to receive the results which showed ethnic strains from Turkey and the ME. (Bob Dylan has a set of Turkish grandparents !)

Is he also pointing to the ethnic background of the current Royal Family ?
Pete Clarke Who said that we evolved out of Africa?

I think you'll find it was the scientific community who said that.
