The words that you are searching for JK, are smarmy, toady and sycophantic (according to the former DPP) !

david my ex-boss, and at the time a friend, was an acquaintance of Tony and Cherie when he became leader.

Apparently Tony would go round the room at parties asking what they thought people 'wanted to hear'. What my boss said was that it was obvious to everyone that Blair was not interested in what needed to be done but what peope wanted to hear.

He also said that while both Cherie and Tony worked as lawyers, volunteering in the evening, Cherie spent hours advising people for no charge, Tony got out as early as he could.

Again, this is all as reported to me by a friend.

I thought Blair came across well in today's programme and he did put through some good legislation (minimum wage, civil partnerships etc) but he does have to live with the lies and deaths that came with the Iraq war.

So true Emma.
Much rather have a Tony Benn,or an Enoch Powell,at least you could see what they believed in,warts and all.

JK2006 I first met him when he was shadow Home Secretary and found him charming and personable.

Since then Iraq... David Kelly... JK...
