Topic History of: Cameron Family Tax Breaks- why?

BR The 25% single person discount reflects a property tax rather than a per person tax.
The income tax structure and pension structures have been tweaked by New Labour to disadvantage married couples.

My sister and her husband now live in separate houses because of this. I think they lost much money because only one of them worked and so the other person did not get any benefits ( which all single people get ) and the tax structure meant they were considerably worse off.

I dont think you will find many who are against this change - in fact I have not seen any opposition anywhere. It is just making the system fair again.
david in what way have single people been given an advantage in recent years? I'd be interested to hear some examples...

One thing I think is very unfair is that as a single person you are only entitled to a 25% council tax discount- why not 50% as the size of the household is 50% of a couple living together.
BR The reason is that the laws passed in the last 10 years have given an advantage to single people in the tax system. This just rebalances it - and makes it fair.

Good idea.
david why should families be prioritised and given tax breaks?

a few points:

1. why exclude single people from your tax breaks? are we not worthy?

2. Please recognise that marriages often fail and damage children.

3. I hope you will include Civil Partnerships along with marriages if you do go along with this misguided initiative.

but in the meantime, you will no doubt please the Daily Mail with the 'family' line.
