Angel Poor ickle Southeners having to deal with the snow keeps all the news off the front page. I smell a conspiracy. Meanwhile in Scotland, its been chaos for 3 weeks now. No mention in the press untill now. I wonder why???
BR I remember 63.....

Anyhow - so far we have had a cold snap since mid December......it snowed on 17 December....

63 was exceptional - as was 47 - and those two will probably not be "beaten" by this - but in some ways if this continues for another 4 - 8 weeks it could be the "Longest" spell of cold weather for 100 years. Making this winter the coldest for 100 years.

This is what some weather experts are saying.

At the moment I would not bet against them.

We are in a "blocking" position and the Jet Stream has moved south by hundreds of miles. We are exposed to air coming from Siberia via Scandinavia and if that continues it may last until early March.
Locked Out Coldest winter for 100 years? A funny concept for anyone who remembers '62/63 or '47.
Almost as funny as how selective BR is being about which headline he presents as "factual". More usually he uses phrases like "media spin" {or maybe even just "good story...???}. The fact is that this is certainly the coldest snap we've had since 1981. Citing any year further back than that is
as redundant as it is inaccurate.
robbiex I keep hearing that it is the coldest winter for 30 years on the radio, which is possible because I don't remember that much snow in my adult life, however when I grew up in the late 70's early 80's we had endless weeks with snow on the ground in the north midlands, so no way is it the coldest winter for 100 years. I don't know why ITN's 'facts' are so different to everyone elses.
Anita thank you BRrrrr
