The Cat I think ratings have fallen all round because of increased use of the internet and DVDs, etc. This seems to make the TV companies less inclined to make an effort. I did see Polar Express for the first time over Christmas and quite enjoyed it. Can't recall if that was BBC or not, but I don't recall any ad breaks so maybe it was. I came into it part way through but found myself hooked.

1996 : 24 million watch top rated BBC christmas special

2009 : 11.2 million watch top rated BBC christmas special

Strictly Come Dancing is an appalling programme not fit to be on TV on Christmas Day - and features all the BBC's New Labour "lovies" and should be scrapped or sold to ITV if it is commercially viable.

Doctor Who was the only decent programme with Gavin and Stacey. But as for the films and filler it was dreadful ( on all channels )

Maybe the BBC will make some effort for next year.
