david I went to a major Van Gogh exhibition in Budapest a few years ago and was blown away.

As you say, the paintings are so much better close up.
JK2006 Tommy and I went to the Royal Academy show - not comprehensive (no sunflowers - no prisoners) but absolutely terrific - I think he's my favourite painter (though Michelangelo is the greatest) and I have huge admiration for his brother Theo.

One painting - Autumn Landscape - actually brought tears to my eyes; it is SOOOO much more fabulous in person; the different shades of brown are quite incredible.
