steveimp Put up the mileage rates! I think I got 40p a mile when I was working, wouldn't cover a spark plugs G string these days!
BR Yes to both ideas.

Common sense.

The reason why they wont do this is VESTED interest AND jobs that would be lost/
Angel What about those who do intergalactic miles through work commitments Steveinp? Seems a bit unfair for them otherwise I like the idea.
steveimp Abolish the Licence Fee - put the price of it under general taxation.

Likewise, abolish Road Tax. Put the price of this under the general cost of fuel.

The benefits?

People will be forced to pay both the licence fee and road tax, meaning those who deliberately flout the law will have no choice - you need fuel to drive your vehicle.

With Road Tax, the vehicles right to be on the road will be determined by the MOT, so use a sticker declaring that the motor is fit for the road which will need to be replaced each time the car passes the MOT.

You will then be able to abolish both organisations that look after the licence fee and the road licensing authorities - saving more money in the process.

Seems sensible to me. Any thoughts?
