Prunella Minge It's an intriguing issue, as most of the great writers who experienced the old studio system (Fitzgerald, Wodehouse etc) depicted it as unremittingly crass and boneheaded, and yet, as you say, that system did actually produce some wonderfully brave and literate work.
JK2006 On Film 4 - Gentleman's Agreement. It would never get made now, let alone win. Far too wordy and intelligent and thoughtful and honest.
