If England avoid defeat against Sweden, they will play Ecuador in the last 16 on Sunday (but they will have to meet Germany sooner or later !). |

No player should be in a World Cup Squad unless he's capable of playing at that level, so the other 12 players should each be able to deliver the goods. Also, the whole point of this strategy is to avoid the main players missing the 4th game due to a yellow card ban or an injury. A good manager has to plan long term. If we don't think we can beat Germany, we might as well pack up and go home today. |

If that is the strategy - play only for any result as we are already through to the next round - we would come 2nd in the group and meet Germany (probably winners of their group) on Sunday !
I can't see Germany losing to this lot, on home ground .... can you?
(If they do follow your strategy its probably that they could also come home on Sunday with one of the WORST scoring records in football history !) |
