veritas Basically JK sums it up in his last post but I hope it's not a sign of age..but perhaps I should be happy it is, but I perceive that discipline in school was soo much better in my day !

Of course this teacher was wrong but why should he lose his career over one mistake ?..and if he has a family should they suffer ?

But it's not all about discipline. You cannot have ramapant governments moaning on about everyone being able to have everything..when they can't ..and a media pusing every facile angle in show-biz as though that's allt ehre is and so on and have a huge disaffected section of comunity who are left out...without concequences.

Yes..Cameron will be just the same.
JK2006 Yes - the Tories are no answer - they will go along with tabloid headline morality. Only the LibDems have a truly sensible and intelligent prisons policy (one reason why I will vote Clegg).
Likewise, it's not always black and white. There ARE awful bastards as teachers who bully and threaten. Just as there ARE genuine abusers who harm vulnerable children and adults. We need common sense and the law catering to individual cases.

And we need stronger punishment for false accusers, corrupt or lazy police, bent CPS prosecutors, bad judges - all these are getting away with it, profiting from lies and greed, bringing society to its knees.

The CPS should drop all cases in the next week involving any teachers where there is no direct evidence to prove a crime has been committed and I agree that a "story" is not enough to take anyone to court.

Hopefully a TORY government will bring in new guidelines on these sorts of things.

A Tory government wouldn't change anything in a case like this, as no one is disputing the fact that the boy was very seriously assaulted. In this case it seems the teacher has been treated sympathetically.
BR JK is totally right on this and has hit the nail firmly on the head.

Males especially should not teach. The chance of an allegation are now around 60% of the profession because the "kids" realise they dont need to prove any allegation. The system finds the teacher guilty immediately - though as this case proves a JURY are harder to convince without evidence.

The CPS should drop all cases in the next week involving any teachers where there is no direct evidence to prove a crime has been committed and I agree that a "story" is not enough to take anyone to court.

JK was unfairly put on trial and convicted like many others of a crime that requires no evidence. The only one on the statute books that does not need any evidence and that includes that the people involved even met.

Hopefully a TORY government will bring in new guidelines on these sorts of things.

It is worth noting that 95% of all abuse allegations that go to court are either dropped or aquit the defendant - because without a "smoking gun" no jury should find anyone guilty of abuse on just a persons ' word.

This teacher was very hard done by - he needed support not a criminal case/

I don't know why anyone goes into teaching these days. Teachers have zero authority and zero protection but are under maximum suspicion.

very well put, Emma.

All the feedback I've had from friends who have gone into teaching has been horrific. Stress levels I could no way cope with, though I did consider teaching as a way back into work, since my background is in training and I love kids.

It seems the tables have been turned- from teachers tormenting kids, to kids tormenting teachers. Neither is right, yet we can't seem to find a happy medium.

I have horrid memories of a kid being dragged out of class, hearing him howl with pain and seeing the teacher come back into class throwing the cane against the blackboard in rage. That in my view is child abuse.

As I said, we need to find a 'happy' medium. Both kids and teachers need respect.
