Prunella Minge It's madness. At least there's an online facilty these days for one to rearrange delivery without having to visit one of those miserable depots, but some of these idiots really do just put the card in without knocking. It's completely irrational.
JK2006 Beyond me too; and beyond the lady in the Post Office; plus it was raining so writing out the card must have taken him or her time in the wet; instead of simply pushing the bell or banging the knocker; I think the answer lies in two words... brain dead.

everyone is complaining about that

OK - but this practice is totally counter-productive because the majority of people would not have the time to go to the Post Office to collect; therefore, the postman would have to make a second visit, at an agreed time. What is the point of just delivering 'sorry you were out cards' - when the package is in the van?

Its really is beyond me.

Waiting for an urgent special delivery DVD of auditions - postman yesterday puts a Sorry you were out card through door without knocking or ringing bell; I go to the Post Office; "it's not back yet; come tomorrow"... just waited in line for thirty minutes; finally got it...

I had a similar experience - but had to wait 48 hours !
Apparently here, the goods are not returned to the local sorting office but taken back to the next city and then have to be re-delivered back to the sorting office !

SELL the Post Office - asap ! If private enterprise cannot run this shambles better then its time it went bust.
JK2006 Bell fine; knocker there; and the lady at the Post Office did eyes to the skies and said "Yes, everyone is complaining about that; sorry".
