steveimp Didn't Kenny Everett have a character based on her? Similar to Verity Treacle who was a very good p**s-take of Thora Hird?
Marcus I didn't always agree with her but she was a fine ambassador on issues such as hospital cleanliness. R.I.P and thanks for your many years of public service.
dixie She told her relatives she wanted her last words to be: "Tell David Cameron that if he screws up my beloved NHS I'll come back and bloody haunt him."
JK2006 How strange; for some reason I thought about her at the weekend and looked her up to get an e-m to say hello. It looked as though she was still active with charities.
BR A legend - an 80s icon.

Died age 79 from a long battle with cancer.

Anyone who lived through the 80s will know the massive impact she had on the population. Her work back then was amazing. Thought she tailed off quite a bit in the later years. But she was getting on by then.

Just more proof that those of us who remember the 80s are getting on a bit now.
