6-4 6-2 8-6 in the quarter finals was tanner's win over Connors (world number 2 back then), Tanner then lost to Borg in straight sets in the semis, Borg failed to drop a set throughout the entire tournament and was the last to achieve that feat....maybe this year? |

30 years ago ... i saw connors loose against roscoe tanner (?)(the man with the fastest serve) at the centre court in wimbledon.
At the beginning Connors (with his mother and his girl-friend, a Miss America watching) was fooling around, but he never had a chance.
And after that match i saw an long-haired swede at court no.1 ...
For 2 or 3 pounds one could have a great day.
I spend the hot summer of 76 watching tennis or swimming in hyde park, and missed all the early punk bands, what a shame! |
