Yes the amount is high,but it will also include a punishment to NY state for their irresponsible conduct in this,and many other matters.
It will of course be reduced on appeal,but the severity of the damages should serve as a warning to uphold the law fairly,and not 'loose' evidence as seems to be the case for other false crimes here. |

How can they justify £18,000,000 of tax payers money on compensation. Did he earn nearly £1,000,000 a year, I don't think so. |

[The Innocence Project] said that of about 50 people it had represented in the last five years, half had received the DNA evidence in their cases from the city of New York.
In the cases of the other half, the city was either unable to produce the evidence or explain what had happened to it.
That is a disgustingly poor standard of work, but seems sufficient to send people to prison for life!
What's even worse is that New York City is going to appeal!!! WTF??? How can they possibly excuse what they've done to this poor bastard? |
