veritas Oh my Gawd it's everything I feared.

He's doing all the things the arch-conservative John Howard did in Oz before he had to back track like crazy and then was booted out.

They never ever come up with an adventurous policy !
BR www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationn...to-be-published.html

If this is to be done for TEACHERs then it must be done for :

Police
Doctors
Civil Servants ( Local )

Otherwise it is unfairly treating teachers.

Will they differentiate between an Oxbridge degree or one from UCL or LSE or St Andrews ? with those gained from let's say "newer" and less rigorous Universitities created by New Labour ?

Will sickness rates tell anyone anything >? say if a teacher has cancer or a major car crash ?

This government has lost its way far too quickly.

It needed to spend time sorting out :

1. Political Correctness in the classroom
2. Discipline Issues - creating Units where disruptive kids could be sent ( these should expand to 1000s if necessary )
3. Small Classes should be the aim in Poor schools ( 1 teacher to 10 students max in every lesson ) By giving these kids attention then discipline would be possible and help. It should be setted by ability as well so all can work at a similar pace.
4. Get rid of League Tables and Easy GCSEs and replace with qualifications that people respect.

That would be a start for Education. No more spending on "Wow" buildings that then are inhabited by pupils who dont want to learn. Put the money into more teachers.

I would hope if TEACHERS are to be judged by Qualifications then each degree award ( First - 2.1 and any Postgrad ) should get them extra cash. Why should the schools use highly qualified staff to attract better pupils if the teachers themselves do not benefit.
