Anyone else see the irony in the pro-democracy protesters in Egypt wanting to silence the millions of pro-government supporters?
I think its quite clear who in Egypt wants to suppress the truth !

From CNN - (CNN) -- Sent as reporters to document the turmoil in Egypt, journalists on Wednesday became targets -- beaten, bloodied, harassed and detained by raging men, most all in some way aligned with embattled President Hosni Mubarak.
Numerous news outlets -- including the BBC, ABC News and CNN -- reported members of their staffs had been attacked, most on the streets of Cairo. In several cases, news personnel were accused of being "foreign spies," seized and whisked away, and often assaulted.

From all the coverage I'm watching, the protesters are all "pro democracy" (even the looters and arsonists?), all the violence is by the "pro Mubarak thugs" - so we must assume nobody normal wants any element of the old regime.
Am I alone to be sceptical about this? Could it be the media only wants a nice simple heroes and villains scenario? And, of course, a good story?
The cynics are the greatest lovers of humanity.
And a wonderful statement from "five EU countries" tells Egypt how it should be governed; thank heavens we have found such a terrific democratic model here. So no financial problems, then, no recession, no injustices? |
