You know it's interesting to see the "division of labour" within the industry. The publishers do the least of all - am I right? Their main job is to collect songwriters'/composers' royalties from PRS/MCPS I think (sharing it 50/50) with them and to put the right words in the right pluggers' ears to get airplay, whereas the labels actually arrange and mainly fund recording, mixing, touring, photoshoots (and possily buy their own products) etc. etc.
Ken said in a previous post that he more-or-less started the practice of buying his own singles - I wonder how he actually did it? Were an army of buyers sent around to every record shop that counted and told to buy X,Y and Z singles on a particular week? I'm intrigued....
