veritas I've always thought-if a ruthless person needs to be removed (debatable) send in a hit squad or offer a huge reward (one bomb costs millions)..Saddam would have gone in months if 30 million quid was put on his head).

bombing is indiscriminate and despite the guff they tell us about 'smart bombs' they are anything but.

david A little over ten years ago I went to Serbia. It was a very sensitive time to go there as we (the US , UK and France) had just bombed Belgrade.

I shouldn't have got into the country but did through errors at the embassy in Budapest and miraculously got past the gun-wielding border guard on the train who thought I was a journalist.

Anyway, once I'd got to Belgrade my Serbian friends had one message for me:

'We hate Milosevic as much as you do. But you have managed to get us all behind him- how? by bombing us.' That comment has stayed with me since.

They also debunked the myths touted by the BBC and others that the Serbian population were ignorant because they only got to see Serbian state tv... my friends switched on their tv and showed us the BBC, CNN, French TV as well as their own state TV.
