Locked Out Ah... that must be why they are so very keen to hand him over, turn him in, stage a peoples' revolt while he's at his weakest... Hold on. They haven't done any of those things, have they? Half a year into a civil war and he's still there. Hang on, I just used a couple of really important words there. Now... what were they?

Oh yes. "civil" and "war". That takes two sides, and by the length of time it has taken NATO {yes, NATO, for the Libyan rebels' ground forces alone could never have made the "progress" they have in many times that number of months} the conclusion can only be that Gadaffi's support was - and possibly continues to be - substantial. Your contention that "Gaddafi was attacking (and killing) his own people" is perhaps correct. But to continue the argument with "because they wanted rid of him" is as fallacious as it is simplistic. Clearly for this campaign to have been ongoing for so long mitigates against the idea of a tyrant being overthrown by a completely dissatisfied and overwhelming majority. It took the people of Romania less than a month to overthrow their government and execute their president. Now that's what happens when a whole nation really wants rid of a system and its head of state. And they had no help from NATO.

You crow and squawk away in your usual self-congratulatory manner if you like. But the situation on the ground in Libya - as illustrated by the farcical "Saif has been arrested"/"Saif just turned up outside our hotel smiling and evidently as free as a bird" - is as far from clear cut as it is possible to be, and clearly not the inexorable certainly you present it as.

I'm sorry JK - I think you have lost your marbles !

Gaddafi was attacking (and killing) his own people (because they wanted rid of him) - a la Assad.

Its what these tyrants do.

Without NATO / UN assistance he was well on the way to erasing Benghazi. Over his 41 year rule his death toll is possibly as high as Hitler's.

Pumpkinhead IF the reports are true that NATO have been directly targeting Gaddafi's compound then this is further evidence that NATO are not just to ensure the ensure the safety of civilians. I wish the likes of Cameron would stop lying and be honest about their intentions.
JK2006 They fought for him and kept the entire world away from him for 6 months.
They demonstrated on his behalf in Tripoli and many other towns.
They have died in their thousands because they supported him.
Why they did so I have no idea and it is another point.

But to deny their existence is evidence only of serious brain damage.
