The BBC to me is like a vast monolith that could easily spin out of control mainly because it's under commercial pressure to come up with the goods and compete with commercial networks and endless political pressure (what politician ever goes into bat for the BBC ?)
Yet does anyone remember just 2 years ago the head of a vast criminally minded enterprise-James Murdoch -was pontificating and demanding it be broken up and sold of with politicans licking his bootstraps and wringing their hands in agreement ?

Due to cutbacks at the BBC, they will only be showing the men's and women's singles finals of the Australian Open tennis. There is no red button coverage this year, despite them having access to the whole tournament if they want to. In previous years, there was extensive live coverage on the red button, and often coverage on BBC Two from breakfast to mid-morning.
If you want to follow the tournament properly, you'll need access to Eurosport.
The BBC is rapidly losing the plot if you ask me. Look at how much they squandered taking the entire sports department to Salford. The cost of relaying coverage via the red button would have been minuscule by comparison.
