He was very entertaining when Master of Emmanuel College. He was very crafty - he'd love it when everyone had to wear gowns for certain events, because his trick was find a pleasant-looking youth and sit down on the side of his gown, thus forcing the poor lad to lean into old Norm as if eager to rest his head on the Master's shoulder. But actually St John Stevas was a great scholar of Walter Bagehot, who ought to be taught much more widely these days.

A strange, eccentric, original queen but I only heard good things about him.
went to a few of his parties in the 80s..a lovely man and the sort of Tory who was a delight to know.
passed away at 82.
Had a great party for the Village People at the Houses of Parliament. Only he could get away with it. If only more politicians were like him today..a gentleman and more concerned about the great unwashed than the so-called Labour Party of today.
