In the decision allowing the BBC to transmit an interview with Babar Ahmad it says the Minister of Justice is "entitled to maintain a policy of normally refusing permission for the broadcasting of interviews with prisoners".
I discovered two cases - Simms/O'Brien and Hirst - where it was found by judges that prisoners MUST be allowed to give interviews to the media when protesting their innocence.
