Last night’s “The 70s” series started on BBC2. Though a bit slow in places, I thought the show was generally very good. Not sure why so much of the commentary was filmed in front of Waterloo Bridge. (Did the producers think it was build then? - If so, they got the wrong bridge. It was London Bridge - After the old one was sold to America). The background music choice was inspiring. Argent, Hawkwind, Mott The Hoople etc. (I don’t suppose anyone has a list of all the music featured?). It covered the first part of the decade rather well. I’m looking forward to part 2.
I initially thought the following programme, “The Sound of the 70s” was going to be a repeat. It wasn’t but most of the featured songs were ones that have either regular or recent exposure elsewhere. Surely the BBC must have footage of acts that have rarely or never been re-aired. They even rolled out the recently discovered Jean Genie recording that was shown over Christmas. (I.e. less than 4 months ago). Still, as I said, I enjoyed it, but I’d like to see stuff that I haven’t seen for decades, not months. |

Great new series on bbc2 based on the book by Dominic Sandbrook.
70s
Lots of rarely seen footage, covering all aspects of life, from politics, to music, to house buying, and strikes, followed by a new series of Sounds of the Seventies.
Great Viewing would make a great lineup for saturday evenings on bbc two. |
