FullFacts JK, for Defense or Prosecution - or for Justice ?

For factual 'balance' in ongoing trials-by-Web the weight of evidence swings on the scales of Justice.
In 1959 Murdoch's then newly acquired ‘Macho' Sydney Daily Mirror, afternoon tabloid, sensationally campaigned in defense of a known Child Sex-Killer (ironically a ‘Rupert Maxwell Stuart’ ) on-trial for a further childsex murder. A Murdoch-swayed jury acquits the man, who is later irrefutably proven guilty. Murdoch thus launches a now well-worn undemocratic ongoing tale of trial-by-tabloid trampling on justice with currently some fair-trials impossible, prosecutions abandoned, suspects and victims alienated from due-process, or entirely innocent lives, families and communities wrecked.

As satirical "OZ"-magazine so called 'Obscenity-trials' successful appellant Richard Neville has documented, the Murdoch ethos was demonstrated right from the beginning of his career. And in 1964, Murdoch's Sydney Daily Mirror, published the diary of a 14-year-old schoolgirl under the headline, "WE HAVE SCHOOLGIRL'S ORGY DIARY". A 13-year-old boy, who was identified, was expelled from the same school. Soon afterwards, he hanged himself from his mother's clothesline. The "sex diary" was subsequently found to be fake.

In 1971, soon after Murdoch bought the UK News of the World, a strikingly similar episode involving an adolescent diary led to the suicide of a 15-year-old girl. More recently, Murdoch himself said, of the industrial killing of innocent men, women and children in Iraq: "There is going to be collateral damage. And if you really want to be brutal about it, better we get it done now . . ."

hedda hopper there was a time when Mr Murdoch was a champion of the falsely accused, saved a man from hanging and faced jail because of it.

"The case brought immensely powerful interests into conflict from the late 1950s, including Australia's longest-serving premier, Tom Playford, and Adelaide's feistiest newspaper of the day, The News, then run by a neophyte publisher named Rupert Murdoch. The wounds it inflicted were deep and lasting. The row began with the horrific killing of a nine-year-old girl, Mary Hattam, on a beach near Ceduna, west of Adelaide, in 1958"
