Not so ITK, not 'very very' hard at all!
The basics first......
Medieval times (Middle Ages) only lasted about 400 years from the Norman invasion - so, therefore, your 'expertise' would not be too relevant in the Leake/Leche/Chatsworth/Cavendish discussion.
This took place in the much later Tudor era (which lasted about 100 years) - although Bess did died (1608) when the Stuarts had taken over!

Yes, the family names continue.
There were numerous "branches" of the family.
Quite a few of the Derbyshire ones now rest here -

Have you read Mary S Lovell's book?
If so, you'll have seen that at the back there are 29 PAGES of cross-referenced and indexed notes showing where she had obtained her research from (original documents / wills / birth-death-marriage records etc).
This makes it easy for other hisorians to reference and verify her claims.
Here is a link to just some of the EYRE papers (my ancestors) held in the National Archive -

Other documents are stored in Universities / private collections / local record offices / Public Record Office at Kew etc etc

Not really, Watcher - how can you be bitter about things that happened (largely) 500 years ago - to people you have never met?
Even if circumstances had been different then - there's no guarantee that we would be where we are today. |
