difficult to compare Thailand with the West except their attempt at creating a property boom was a disaster.

Pattaya I really do hate to agree with ITK here,but think you'll find it's a mix of plentiful natural resources,coupled with a sound previous economic policy allowing them to do this.
Reality in all things,a look at Thailand would be interesting for both of you,natural balance is essential.

250,000 manufacturing jobs switched back to the USA recently because of high wage costs in China - plus increased energy and transport costs.

(The US unions slashing wages helped too !)
