Seriously you people are effing hypocrites and should get over yourselves.
Regardless of its shortcomings Band Aid, Live Aid, Comic Relief etc do a lot
of good and they are entertaining in their own right. If you want to argue
about the moral issues behind them then why not start with your own household
and sell you big overblown fancy cars and trappings of riches and give the money
to the poor. Of course you can't, won't are unable to etc.
I am getting fed up of your routine bashing of Bob Geldof and other charity efforts
whilst your darling protege gets no such lambastings when he does something for
charity whilst self promoting at the same time. Get over yourselves the lot of you.
Well said Sir. I'm glad I'm not the only one on here who believes the world is a much better place because of the efforts of Bob Geldof. There is no other music industry person (alive or dead) who has been responsible for raising more money for charity. It has been interesting to see everyone on this board praising Jimmy Savile's charity work and defending his other weaknesses but can't see any of the good Bob Geldof has done.
EVERYONE on this board?
I am happy to praise Jimmy Savile's charity work (cant remember ever mentioning it here) but if by "other weaknesses" you mean sexual attacks then I most certainly have never defended this behaviour from anybody and I never would.
My views about Bob Geldof's stage list is nothing I haven't told him to his face and he quite rightly couldn't give a monkeys about my opinion and I am surprised that you do!
Regarding the Hutchence/Geldof custody dispute, I think it is important to remember that it was Paula who initially stopped Tiger seeing her grandparents.
I doubt he gives a stuff what you and I think but to keep the facts straight- I was around in Sydney when Paul & Michael first took the baby there ( I made a small fortune from selling pics they allowed me to take).
His mother was hard to take but his father an absolute joy.
Tiger Lilly was undoubtedly better off with her half sisters..much better atmosphere and life but Geldorf went out of his way to restrict access...twice Kel Hutchence flew to London for 1 week after arranging a visit with Geldorf and both times he thwarted those visits. That just about destroyed a 73 yr old man.
Ultimately it may backfire as the natural tendency for any child as they grow up is to find out about family. Then again maybe not. Who knows.
I can understand Paula falling out with them when nobody was thinking straight because of grief, but I am sure this would have been resolved had she lived.
I am afraid I cannot think of many reasons to deprive a child of her family when she had already lost so much.
I can only imagine that he was terrified of losing custody? |

I think Bob did some good though far less than Savile. But in general it was a good cause that got hijacked by his ego; it helped him more than it helped Africans; it was bad for music (and his own music deteriorated from the excellent Boomtown Rats); it enabled much hypocrisy and sanctimonious claptrap; it detracted from the better organised established charities and probably led to more deaths rather than fewer.
But there's a lot of positive aspects including the fact that he's an intelligent and charming man. |
