The British comedian - known for his work on sketch shows Alas Smith and Jones and Not The Nine O'clock News - died at his home on Friday.
He was born in west London in 1962.
Very sad news, I loved Not the Nine O'clock news. I think that you must mean he was born in 1952, not 1962.
BBC made that mistake, i just copied and pasted. I didn't spot it.

One of my favorite sketches.

R.I.P Mel - his work on the Not The Nine O'Clock News team on it's own was worthy of celebration
Let's hope he isn't the next crucified dead man - He was named by that idiot Ben Fellowes on his youtube police interview, and the "detective" interviewing him described Mel Smith as "a basket case"
